Commanders Coach Takes Blame for Leaving Jayden Daniels in Contest Prior to Serious Injury

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has stated he bears some the blame for a serious ailment to the team’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels.

Particulars of the Harm and Situation

Jayden Daniels, who had one of the greatest rookie campaigns in history last season, suffered a dislocated left elbow in the Sunday defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. Although Daniels throws with his dominant arm, the injury has left his campaign in doubt. The injury was serious enough that the television broadcast avoided showing repeats and multiple players looked away as he was attended to by team doctors.

Backlash and Leader’s Response

Quinn came under scrutiny as many felt Daniels should not have been on the field to begin with. The injury occurred in the final period with the Commanders behind 38-7, rendering a recovery improbable. It is common in these situations for teams to insert their reserve QB to avoid injuries to their starter.

“I understand. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, wow, I missed it,” he said of his choice to keep Daniels in the match. “This is 100% on me.”

Aftermath and Squad Outlook

Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback going forward, but he will lead a team in turmoil. Following reaching the conference title game the prior year behind Daniels’s excellence, the franchise have struggled this season. They also lost defensive back Marshon Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on game day, and have a host of other starters on injured reserve. The Washington squad are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would take a huge turnaround for the club to make the playoffs.
