Ten sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced allegations of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The full ruling has still to be made public.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the first lady's biological sex.
Their lawsuit states that Owens disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she taught at his secondary school.
The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
